Trying to understand camp movies and cult movies is challenging. We’ll take that challenge. After 10 classes we’ll have a better understanding of this hidden corner of cinema. Cult movies and camp movies are two very different categories. I’ll find films that fit both categories. One of the problems is due to the underlying nature of cult film, which is repeated viewing. There is no plan (as of yet) to visit the Clinton Theater for a late night class trip. There will be no requirement to watch The Big Lebowsky 10 times. I will not be enforcing a requirement to watch El Topo at midnight while stoned. I’m putting together a 10-week class that will examine these films and understand what makes them tick.
